It was so nice to see how the kids enjoyed to face the fear and be proud when they went through it. What a nice afternoon learning from kids how to handle danger!

Brücken — Bridges
In Oregon gibt es zahlreiche historische überdachte Holzbrücken.
Aber warum in aller Welt wurden diese nicht nur überdacht, sondern auch verkleidet. Bei der letzten, die ich bis jetzt besuchte, erfuhr ich dann, dass es sich um eine Schutzeinrichtung handelte, die äußeren Bedingungen machten dem Holz so zu schaffen, dass sie oft nur 8 Jahre hielten, verkleidet dafür hielten sie mehrere Jahrzehnte. Weiters wurden diese Holzbrücken aber auch für Treffpunkte und Feste genutzt, weil man so schön den Rhythmus bei den Tanzschritten hört. Irgendwie war es ein Ersatz für ein Gemeindezentrum. Es rattert auch ziemlich wenn man darüber fährt.
Es gibt noch viele heute “covered bridge festivals” einfach mal googlen.
Ich bin auch über eine Mischung zwischen Stahl und Holz gefahren. Diese Brücke war einspurig, und ein paar Leute aus dem Dorf saßen links und rechts bei der Brückeneinfahrt. Anscheinend wurden auch nur die Spuren für die Autos extra gelegt, diese waren erhöht. Komisches Gefühl beim Drüberfahren.

4th July — a supplement
Honestly I saw just one who looked that way. I am now in Portland, Oregon.
But I had a nice conversation with a young man who asked people to register for the election. We spoke about Obama and these weird women of the Republicans and how media like people like them. And about green politics and how companies rule not only the USA but the whole planet.
There are actually decisions where NY and California wanted to make some laws stronger for power companies which was taken away from state competence to higher stages. (ps. it lasted 3 years in California to forbid them, and the law in NY needed till 2016 — 5 years)
Some counties try to get rid off plastic bags but local companies fight against it. In San Francisco you get only paper bags anymore. In Santa Barbara the decision is completed. Finally we agreed that we all can learn from each other. I spoke about my surprise that a politician wants us to think and how much I like it. But this doesn’t make so much noise than populistic sayings. It was a nice 4th July talk.
Now I can see a little bit but smell a lot of the fireworks. I hear the fire department and some dogs barking. Sigh. And I saw quite a lot of homeless today. Sigh.
